Any Man's Nightmare

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

Japanese knotweed is certainly a bane to everyone, especially builders as it can make ones life real misery. Getting rid of them by employing herbicides s is surely your best bet, however it take a long time to be rid of them entirely and successfully. In the cold weather the plant survives as it is an underground rhizome. In order to get rid of this plant, the problem has to be tackled from the grass root level and the roots have to be killed. Japanese knotweed is a nightmare, as it spreads very fast and it could damage and penetrate even concrete structures. Therefore those in the building industry dread it as it could even destroy roads, drainages, foundations and pavements. Every method of eradication comes with its own set of drawbacks, be it chemical treatment or removal of contaminated soil. However there is no need to lose heart for with time and patience the problem could be solved.

LED Grow Lights Are Economical for Gardeners

Friday, May 6th, 2011

Gardeners growing plants indoors are loving the new savings that they are making by using the new LED Grow Lights. Before, one of the main problems of people who are growing plants indoors was the large amount of money that was being spent providing the lights for their plants to grow. Also, since before the new and more efficient LED grow lights came out of the market, growers had to use more lights to come up with satisfactory growing conditions for the plants. More lights meant more heat. More heat meant gardeners or people who were trying to grow plants indoors, also had to use other equipment to cool down the general area so that the plants don’t wither from the heat. Without the unnecessary heat, the growers are saving a lot on money and putting it to good use elsewhere. This also means they could grow different varieties because of the lessened heat output from the lights.

The Junk is out of Control

Friday, April 15th, 2011

At first, I thought it was great that my husband had a hobby he liked so much. He builds all manner of wild and interesting sculptures out of scrap metal. I don’t understand much about it, though I do no for a fact that lots of welding is involved. That’s been all fine and good, but it’s gotten out of control. He brings back every piece of random metal or wire that he finds, even if it’s lying by the side of the road. I would like to have use of the back garden again this summer, and I know the kids would, as well. We can hardly have a small pool out there for them when the whole garden is filled with metal junk, can we? So this month on my husband’s birthday, I bought a plastic shed and had it delivered, even paid to have it set up in the garden. I’m so glad he has someplace to store all his junk now.

Superthrive Plant Vitamin Hormone Supplement

Friday, February 25th, 2011

I’ve been a very keen gardener for around 20 years, I concentrate my efforts mainly on hydroponic gardening, and a few plant pots. This is due to the fact I live in an apartment block with no garden. I plant all kinds of things in my various hydroponic and now aeroponic systems and I make a fair bit of money on the side by selling certain herbs, plants and veg off season to farm shops around town.

I test out things every now and then to see if I can improve either the quantity, quality, size or color of the things i’m growing. My latest test has involved the Superthrive Plant Vitamin Hormone Supplement which i’ve been feeding to my newest batch of tomatoes.

Actually i’ve been carrying out a test into how using Superthrive in tomatoes compares to a non Superthrive group. Let me tell you now that i’ve heard a lot about Superthrive, it used to be advertised on TV many years ago and i’d heard it was like injecting your plants with anabolic steroids.

I used 2 separate trays, each with 6 tomato plants in. I gave one tray 1 capful of Superthrive every 2 days, as stated on the bottle and the second tray was fed with just water.

Within 2 weeks, the difference was quite astonishing, however I waited until the 4 week mark to pick the tomatoes as this is what i’ve always done.

After 4 weeks, I picked one tomato from each of the six plants in both trays, so I had two piles of six tomatoes.

The tomatoes using Superthrive were much richer in color and slightly larger in size, they also looked healthier and felt firmer. However the true shock came when I weighed both piles. The non Superthrive pile had a combined weight of 29.6 ounces whereas the Superthrive pile weighed 34.8 ounces.

This gives a clear winner and needless to say, i’ll be using Superthrive in the future to improve my plants and make even more money from sales.

Greenhouse Plans Are a Must

Sunday, February 13th, 2011

A while back I started a pretty hefty DYI project. I decided to build my own greenhouse. Now, I consider myself an advanced woodworker and pretty knowledgable about structures and things of that nature. But boy did I make a big mistake. I didn’t get a set of quality greenhouse plans and I paid the price.

I live in an area where building permits and things like that are needed. Well, since I didn’t have any blueprints I tried to skirt the system. You know, not tell anyone. Heck my neighbors don’t care what I do. I don’t care what they do. So I started building. Now, if I had plans to build my greenhouse, I probably would have got the permite and all that.

I also wouldn’t be staring at a collapsed pile of wood and fiberglass in my backyard. I failed to account for any kind of snow load. After the unusual winter storms here in Georgia, my structure failed to hold up. Live and learn, eh.

Growing Dill Indoors is relatively easy and you can see the results quickly as dill is one of the easiest herb to grow and because of that it is an ideal choice if you are a beginner gardener.

Growing Dill Indoors can be very easy as long as it is placed on the perfect spot that receives sunlight at least 5-6 hours a day. Otherwise, place it under the fluorescent lights for 12 hours daily. Protecting your garden soil during winter

Friday, May 21st, 2010

Unfortunately we cannot have sunny days all year round 24 hours a day unless we are blessed living in the tropics. We do have to contend with cold weather and sometimes even snow. Cold and snow are natural hazards for most gardens and the soil so we must take a few steps to protect the top soil which is so necessary for healthy plants in the summertime. Lacking snow, frost is one of the bigger enemies of top soil. Should the cold weather start we can put a thin sheet of plastic over the top soil of our garden and then put soil on top of it again. Should we be averse to using plastic due to environmental considerations a good mound of pine needles over your garden plot should protect the top soil in the bitter cold of winter. When summer comes we can take off these protective measures and enjoy our planting once again. Interesting in some Los Gatos Landscape Design?
